Free Pumpkin Carving at the UMLAUF Sculpture Garden

On Sunday, October 25, you can take the kids to the UMLAUF Sculpture Garden & Museum for the free, annual pumpkin carving competition from noon – 4 p.m.

The UMLAUF Pumpkin Carving Competition is an afternoon for families to sculpt their holiday pumpkins and participate for prizes. Overseen by “Professor Pumpkin” from the Texas Society of Sculptors, this event features community judges who will choose the most amusing, spooky, artistic and lovable creations.

Admission is free, but please bring non-perishable food items for the Capital Area Food Bank. Pumpkins are generously donated by Whole Foods Market. You can RSVP for this event here.

The Pumpkin Carving Competition is part of the UMLAUF’s Last Straw Fest that also includes the following events:

–> Haunted Garden, Oct. 30, 7-10 p.m. (for grown-ups)
An evening dedicated to adults with eerie sounds, lights and elusive memories by Ilios Lighting. This engaging event of food, amusements, music, and alcoholic alchemy will feature local sound design artists to cultivate a fresh aspect of the Austin music scene. Enjoy the garden at night in a whole new light!  Tickets are $40, which you can purchase online here.

–> “Scarecrow + Straw Men” Awards and Festival, Nov. 1, 12 – 4 p.m.
The “Scarecrows + Straw Men” competition is the central feature of UMLAUF’s first annual LAST STRAW FEST. Austin businesses, artists, architects, and neighborhood groups are invited to participate in a “Scarecrow” competition that confronts their worst fears and reinforce their desire to win. Entries will be judged throughout the week and prizes awarded at the festival on Sunday, November 1, which will take place of Family Day at the UMLAUF. This festival features a host of fun fall activities including food, music and arts and crafts! Free. RSVP here.
