Parents, we realize it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind of playdates, school, diapers, bedtime hissy-fits and all of the other love and sunshine that comes from our cherished littles. It’s easy to feel out of touch.
But, we beg you to Get A Sitter, to go out with your significant other and your friends and see some bands or check out a new restaurant or bar. There is SO MUCH going on in this city, embrace it. In honor of our family over at Do512, here are some events to check out without the kids.
Thursday, Feb. 19:
— Brian Posehn, Cap City Comedy, 8 p.m.
Comedian/actor/writer Brian Posehn has most recently been seen on Comedy Central’s popular show, The Sarah Silverman Program and on tour as one of the original members of the “Comedians of Comedy”. Besides writing and performing on HBO’s acclaimed Mr. Show, he has appeared in numerous sitcoms. You can check out this special event at Cap City Comedy on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. — Avenue Q, Ground Floor Theatre, 7:30 p.m.
Avenue Q was named the best musical of 2013 by the B. Iden Payne awards & the Central Texas Excellence in Theatre Awards, and it’s back with the original cast in this hilarious revival! Join Kate Monster, Princeton, Trekkie Monster, and the entire gang of felt and fur as they try to find their purpose in life in this puppet show for grownups. Friday, Feb. 13:
— Supper Friends Chinese New Year Dinner, Swoop House, 7-9 p.m.
Enjoy a special multi-course dinner at Swoop House, a charming 1930’s bungalow in East Austin. The night starts with appetizers at 7 p.m. and finishes up with dessert and coffee around 10:30 p.m. Check out the menu and make your reservation here.
— Lisa Lampanelli, Paramount Theatre, 8 p.m.
Known as “the Queen of Mean” to her legions of fans, Lisa Lampanelli is one of the sharpest and fiercest comics working today. A staple of the Comedy Central roasts, she also recently appeared on Celebrity Apprentice. Continuing in the tradition of Joan Rivers, Lampanelli leaves audiences stunned with her hilarious take-no-prisoners approach. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased online here.

— Mayeux and Broussard CD Release, Stubbs, 8:30 p.m.

Sunday, Feb. 15:
— Mad Hatter Tea Parties, Four Seasons Hotel, 2-5 p.m.
Offered in conjunction with the Harry Ransom Center’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland exhibition, the tea parties will take place in the Hotel’s Lobby Lounge from 2-5 p.m. The Mad Hatter Tea Parties will bring the fun and frivolity of Alice’s Wonderland to life with special décor, creative treats and interactive elements. The cost is $42 per adult and $30 per child (ages 11 and under). Reservations are required and may be made by calling 512-685-8300.
