National Ice Cream Day is on Sunday, July 17, and we are fully prepared to celebrate! This takes place each year on the 3rd Sunday in July, as part of National Ice Cream Month. A holiday in honor of this delicious cold treat is a lovely excuse to indulge. Of course you could simply stop by one of the Best Places for Ice Cream in Austin, or you could check out one of these special events…
Ice Cream Events in Austin This Weekend:
— Junior Chef Series: 20-foot Ice Cream Sundae @ Austin Rec Center
Saturday, July 16, 1-3 p.m.
Join the Johnson Center for an afternoon of foodie fun! Kids ages 4-10 can explore new food and learn about nutrition as they wait for the grand finale: a 20-foot ice cream sundae. Please RSVP at [email protected]. All food will be allergen-friendly (no nuts, gluten, or casein) and most recipes are vegetarian. Free for ages 4-10!
— Ice Cream Social @ South Congress Hotel
Sunday, July 17, 1-4 p.m.
The South Congress Hotel hosts Ice Cream Socials in the Courtyard every Sunday of summer. This weekly event includes cold treats by Executive Pastry Chef Amanda Rockman and the Stephen F. Frostin’ artisanal ice cream truck. This week also includes a photo booth, free face painting, flower crowns for sale, drink specials, lawn games and live music. You can visit the Stephen F. Frostin’ Facebook page for more info about their ice cream selection.
— National Ice Cream Day – Cones for a Cause @ Lick Honest Ice Creams
Sunday, July 17, open from 12:3o – 10 p.m.
Give back to the local community on National Ice Cream Day with their Cones for a Cause campaign! They’re donating 5% of sales proceeds on July 17th to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas and Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Antonio. Throughout July, they’ll be accepting donations for the charities at all three of their scoop shops — and they’ll be sending our staff to serve ice cream to families with hospitalized children that rely on the San Antonio and Austin charities’ houses.
No matter where you like to go for ice cream, we hope you enjoy a scoop or two! And be sure to save the date for the Austin Ice Cream Festival coming up on August 13.
