Every Sunday at 2 pm in Hideout Theatre, an improv group known as The Flying Theater Machine, puts on a fun and interactive show for kids. The theme is chosen by the group — which is The Pirates of Hideout Cove during July and August — and kids help out with crafting the plot and storyline so every Sunday show is different. Kids are even given the opportunity to become part of the show and spend a bit of time on stage with the actors!
Last Sunday, the pirates went on a journey to mysterious Canada and gave the farmer there tips on agriculture. Because in kid-world, Pirates who spend their time at sea are somehow experts in agriculture. Kids seated on the floor up front were pet sea creatures of a lonely witch and participated in a special obstacle course followed by a pirate dance party. There were loads of laughs (from the kids, families and actors) and tons of fun.
The cost to attend is only $5 and you can buy tickets here.
The Hideout Theatre is located right on Congress at 7th, a few blocks away from The State Capitol near The Paramount Theatre. Street parking is free on Sunday, but build in plenty of time for hunting down a spot to get there in time for the show.
Outside food is not permitted into the theatre, but anything you purchase at the cafe can be taken in to the show.
Hideout Theatre also offers Improve classes for adults and kids and they still have room in their Summer Camps!

Pirate costumes are totally acceptable.
Enjoy!
Thanks for the lovely write up! Every show is different so you never know what is going to happen. We’ll continue Pirates through the end of August then after that we’ll do Fairly Silly Fairy Tales – in which we take standard Fairy Tales and mix them up to make super awesome stories!
