On Saturday, Jan. 9, families are invited to The Contemporary Austin at Laguna Gloria from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m for Home Tweet Home — a free workshop where kids can design a modern birdhouse as part of the monthly Second Saturdays are for Families series. Kids can be good neighbors to our feathered friends by creating a warm place for them to hang out this winter. Recommended for ages 2 – 11.
Roger Hiorns’s interactive foam sculpture “A retrospective view of the pathway” will be activated at 1 p.m. to create an otherworldly landscape where kids can play in the bubbles! This installation will be at Laguna Gloria through Sunday, Jan. 24.
*The foam used in Hiorns’s artwork is nontoxic and biodegradable. Please use caution if you have sensitivities to detergent-based materials. We invite you to interact with the installation at your own risk. Guests are encouraged to wear clothes that can get wet or messy and to bring towels and a change of clothes.
–> Admission is free! Previously, the Contemporary Austin’s Second Saturdays series required admission fees, but now thanks to sponsorship by HomeAway, these events are free.
Please take note that while Museum grounds, art activities, and performances are open to all guests and available free of charge, art-making supplies may be limited and art activities are first-come, first-served.
