Several local places are offering free and inexpensive films for families, and here’s a round-up of where to go in Austin for children’s summer movies.

Families can catch $1 movies all summer long at Hooky Entertainment in Hutto, one of the newest movie and entertainment centers near Austin. The Morning Movie Magic series runs Monday through Thursday at 10 am, with fun picks like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Sonic the Hedgehog 2. After the movie, stick around for arcade games, bowling, and a full dine-in menu — an easy, affordable way to beat the heat.


Alamo Drafthouse Kids Camp
Alamo Drafthouse’s beloved Kids Camp is back for summer 2025! While the full schedule for Austin locations hasn’t been released yet, the program is confirmed to return with family-friendly films and ticket prices ranging from just $1 to $5. Austin Parks Foundation’s Movies in the Park invite you to pack a picnic, relax on a blanket, and enjoy a fun night out with the family. Community Cinema at Community First! The village presents outdoor screenings throughout the year. Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy outdoor films for fun summer nights. Movies are offered FREE, with a suggested donation of $5 and up.

KidFlix is back at EVO with 10 fun-filled weeks of $1 family films. There will be a different film each week, with showtimes at 10 am every day at all EVO locations. Check the lineup.

  1. FYI I just purchased two tickets at Alamo for their kids camp and it still came to 21.00 total because of the fees and the tickets were actually 7.00. Other theaters don’t seem to be adding on those high fees.
