Summer Activities at the Blanton Museum 2016

Looking for some indoor options for family entertainment this summer? The Blanton Museum of Art on the UT campus is offering up some family fun with their summer program that runs from June 14 through July 27. And as a bonus, kids ages 12 and under are always free to visit, and everyone can enjoy free admission on Thursdays.blantontour

The Blanton Museum of Art not only offers impressive art collections, but they also offer families the chance to get hands-on with art activities. Check out these weekly programs that are FREE with admission:

–> WorkLab
Wednesdays from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m
WorkLAB is an open studio that invites makers of all ages to explore a range of media used by artists, while experimenting with a variety of techniques and enticing materials. Drop by to create, engage, and connect through art! *Check-in at Visitor Services Desk. Free with admission. Space is limited to 30 makers. Please anticipate an average wait of 20 minutes after you sign up at the door.

–> Artists & Authors Family Tours
Thursdays at 10:30–11:15 a.m. & 11:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m. (For ages 5–8)
June 16, June 23, and June 30
Meet in the Rapoport Atrium for the Artists and Authors Tours. These are thirty-minute literary adventures through the museum, weaving together storytelling and works of art. Each tour is designed to foster curiosity and conversation between adults and their children. Artwork and book selection changes each week. *Space is limited. Tour tickets available at the Visitor Services Desk thirty minutes prior to the tours.

–>3ft Deep
Tuesdays at 10–11:30 a.m. (For ages 3–5)
June 14, June 21, and June 28
Meet in the Rapoport Atrium, for this program designed especially for preschool children and their caregivers. 3ft Deep programs promote imaginative thinking, social-emotional growth, and expressive use of language. Enjoy a half-hour gallery activity followed by a process-focused art project in the WorkLAB studio. Snacks provided. *Space is limited to 12 participants (children and adults). Preregistration is strongly encouraged. Call 512.471.5512 to save your spot.

–> Deeper Dives
Fridays at 10:30 a.m.–12 noon & 1–2:30 p.m. (For ages 8-12)
June 17–July 22
Meet in the Rapoport Atrium. Deeper Dives encourages adult and child interaction around close looking, guided conversation, and related art-making activities. Each week will focus on a different theme from works on view. *Space is limited to 15 participants. Preregistration is strongly encouraged. Call 512.471.5512 to save your spot.

  • Closed Mondays
  • Tuesday – Friday, 10 a.m. -5 p.m. (Third Thursdays open until 9 p.m.)
  • Saturday, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, 1-5 p.m.
