Whether your children are back in classrooms or logging onto computers for virtual learning, this school year is certainly full of challenges for students, educators and families. As parents and caregivers we can do our best to assist and encourage our children as they navigate the school year, but we also want to provide support to the superstar teachers who are giving it their all, learning new teaching methods, and trying new formats while riding a roller coaster of constant change.
Teachers help our kids thrive, learn, and grow. During the pandemic, many of us have a better understanding of just how much our teachers do for our children on a daily basis. Let’s be sure that they know how much they are valued!
What can we do to build a relationship of love and support for our educators? We asked the Austin Council of PTAs for a few ideas…
- We all need to show each other some grace and patience and lean into love right now.
- Reach out, let them know you care, and ask if there is anything you can be doing to support them at this time.
- Old-fashioned written cards and notes can be a simple way to make someone feel good.
- Sign up to tutor, mentor, or apply to be a substitute teacher.
- Advocacy is the greatest form of teacher appreciation. Learn about the issues that educators are facing and get involved through calls, emails, letter writing campaigns. You can always ask your school’s PTA team how to best lend a hand to support specific issues at your child’s school. You can keep an eye on the Austin Council PTA Facebook page for any upcoming virtual events or the latest call to action.
Other ideas…
- Find out if there is a wish list of classroom supplies or books needed that you can help fulfill.
- Ask your child’s teacher if you can order them lunch delivery one day.
- Send gift cards via email.
- If short on time and resources, just send a quick email to say “Thank You”.
Our raffle for Hat Creek gift cards is now closed and winners have been contacted via email. Thanks to all who entered!
