Symphony Scare: Free Family Fun with Storytelling, Music & Costumes!

‘Tis the season for a night of family-friendly frights and delights! Waterloo Greenway invites everyone to come out on Friday, October 18 for Austin’s first-ever Symphony Scare! This new Halloween tradition on Waller Creek will be an evening packed with free entertainment including ghastly folktales filled with ghoulies and ghosties and and things that go bump in the night. Hear bilingual storyteller Carolina Quiroga-Stultz as she’s accompanied by acclaimed composer, Graham Reynolds. You can also take part in a costume contest, enjoy food vendors, face painting and more! Read on for the full schedule and plan to meet friends and family at Symphony Square from 6-9 p.m.!

— Dance Waterloo’s Halloween Themed Storybook Dance Making, 6 – 7 p.m.
Special Halloween themed dance, art, and storytelling for all! Fun and inviting for parents and children alike.

— Featured Performance: Symphony Scare! Storytelling Showcase,  7:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Bilingual storyteller, Carolina Quiroga-Stultz will bring to life a series of native and Latin American spooky tales. Accompanied by acclaimed composer, Graham Reynolds.

— Halloween Costume Contest, 6 – 9 p.m.
All ages encouraged! Waterloo Greenway judges will award prizes to the three best costumes. Special attention will be payed to environmentally themed costumes and costumes that utilize upcycled materials! Onsite registration and judging will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. Finalists and prizes will be announced between 8:30-9 p.m. Prizes include:

  • Children (0-12) – Limited Edition Creek Monster
  • Youth (13-20) – Gift Card to Whole Earth Provisions
  • Adult Category (21+) – Free Tickets to 2019 Creek Show Preview Party on Wednesday, November 6

— Ms. Batty’s Haunted Curio Shop hosted by Austin Bat Cave, 6 – 9 p.m.
Visitors to the shop will help solve and write the ending to the story of the disappearance of Ms. Batty.

— MadScience, 6 – 7:30 p.m.
Have some fun with special Halloween themed STEM activities for all ages from MadScience including:

  • Bubbling Potions – Explore the 3 states of matte by building a giant bubbling potion. Create the same spooky smoke illusions used in the movies.
  • Spooky Sensory Oozy Fun –  Discover the polymer properties of slime, orbees and silly putty first hand.
