Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at the Mayborne Museum Complex

Calling all fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! There’s an awesome interactive museum exhibit paying tribute to the famous “heroes in a half shell” right now at the Mayborne Museum Complex at Baylor University in Waco, TX. Cowabunga, dudes, it’s totally worth the drive!

When you enter Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles™: Secrets of the Sewer™ exhibit, you’ll be transported to the New York City underground home of the crime-fighting heroes to see what really happens in their secret hideaway. TMNT brothers Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello welcome you to their sewer lair to train together and to learn about the Turtles’ skillful strategies. The exhibit will be open through May 6, 2018 — and sounds like a great outing for Spring Break.

The Turtles are known for their teamwork. As the TMNT’s sensei, Splinter, often tells them, “Together there is nothing you cannot accomplish.” So this is where your family can come together to have some fun. Moms & Dads won’t want to sit on the sidelines here. You’ll all get to have some collaborate on building challenges, collaborative games and mind-teasing puzzles. Here’s some examples of what you can do:

  • Build a “bridge” together and think creatively as a team to overcome challenges
  • Assemble two electrical circuit puzzles by taking one apart to build another
  • Use patience to navigate a rope maze
  • Practice ninja speed and slicing skills while playing a dexterity-based computer game
  • “Shred up” and practice your balance on skateboards
  • Create a sewer pipe together and see where it goes

We’ve mentioned before how much we love the Mayborne Museum Complex. It’s one of our suggested 5 Children’s Museums Near Austin That Are Worth the Trip as well as one of our recommendations for things to do on a Daytrip to Waco. If you haven’t been before, be prepared for hours of enjoyment. The Mayborn Museum Complex features exploration stations for geology, paleontology, archaeology, and natural history, as well as two floors of themed kids discovery rooms for hands-on learning. Make giant bubbles, have a tea party, play dress up in clothes from cultures all over the world, see model trains, pretend to be a meteorologist and give a weather report against a green screen. You can also check out an outdoor historic village behind the museum.

Admission to the museum complex is $8 for adults; $6 for children ages 2-13 years; $7 for seniors (65yrs+); and free for Museum Members & Baylor University Students. Hours are:

  • Monday – Wednesday,  Friday & Saturday –> 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Thursday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Sunday, 1 – 5 p.m.

  1. Seriously? Suggesting an exhibit that opens in MAY as a Spring Break trip? May? How familiar are you with kids and their schedules? Spring break is in March.

    • Hi, I think you may have simply misread the article. The exhibit is open through May 6, so it would be a great option for a day trip during spring break. Here at Do512 Family, we’re a small team of parents who are very familiar with the schedules of Austin kids. We are always on the look-out for fun activities and events to share with y’all. Hope you’re able to check out the museum, and we hope you have a wonderful spring break!
