On Sunday, September 13, East 6th Street will be transformed into a car-free playground from 12-5 p.m. during the annual VIVA! STREETS community event. VIVA! STREETS is a free festival that invites you to play, get fit, people watch, and celebrate good health. During the event, one-mile of East 6th Street will become a safe place for families to run, skateboard, roller skate, jog, skip and play. It will also be filled with activities like hula hooping, ping pong, giant chess, jump roping, chalk art, obstacle course, bike polo, a craft area, soccer, basketball, and more.
This Austin event was inspired by Ciclovia, an open street festival started in Colombia where people could come together and enjoy different forms of exercise with their community. Whether you’re into cycling, or walking down a car-less street, or outdoor yoga, VIVA STREETS will let you do it all. This FREE, family event is meant to provide a way to commune, and breathe some fresh air in a car-free and tobacco-free environment.
