Youth Fishing Derby in Round Rock

Grab your fishing poles! The City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department presents the Youth Fishing Derby from 7 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, Mar. 21 at Bright Lake in Old Settlers Park. The event is free for children ages 3-12, but pre-registration is strongly encouraged and all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Participants must provide all their own equipment, including one fishing pole per child. They will have some worms onsite, but feel free to bring your own bait, too. Bright Lake is home to bass, catfish and sunfish, so prepare accordingly. Size 6-8 is a good all-round hook size.

There will also be demonstrations and other activities. Here’s the schedule:

  • 6:45 – 9 a.m.: Check In/Late Registration
  • 7 – 11 a.m.: Fishing
  • Awards immediately following result tabulation at conclusion of fishing. Prizes will be awarded for the Largest Bass Caught Overall, Largest Fish Caught in each division and Most Fish Caught in each division.
