Do512 Family - What to do in Austin with Kids

Into The Woods Jr. at ZACH Theatre

Take a magical trip into the woods this weekend… with your kids? You bet. ZACH Theatre presents a kid-friendly version of the 1980s Broadway hit, Into the Woods, appropriately calling it Into the Woods Jr.

INTO THE WOODS LOGO FINAL

This version of the tale takes out all of the depressing parts and leaves the happily ever after fun that ages 5 and up can enjoy. Hooray!

This 1-hour play features ZACH’s pre-professional students in grades 6 – 12. These students will be performing one of the most challenging vocal scores in American musical theatre!

Your whole family will enjoy this darkly funny spin on well-loved fairy tales told from a different perspective. All of Grimm’s Fairy Tales will be interwoven in this story about how wishes can come true.

In this story, the Baker and Baker’s Wife find out that a Witch has placed a curse on their house after spiriting away The Baker’s sister, Rapunzel. The pair are now cursed and unable to have a baby. The Witch tells them they can break the curse by finding ingredients like Jack’s cow, Riding Hood’s cape, Cinderella’s slipper and Rapunzel’s hair. While this list seems almost impossible, you and your kids will be pleased to find out that it all kind of works out for the Baker and his wife. Find out how, this weekend, at ZACH Theatre!

Into the Woods Jr. is directed by ZACH’s Associate Director of Education and choreographed by ZACH’s pre-professional coordinator and mainstage actor, Jennifer Young-Mahlsteadt.

Showtimes are at 2 and 7 pm on both Friday, August 16, and Saturday, August 17. Tickets are $10 for kids and $12 for adults, and you can purchase them here. This performance will be on the Kleberg Stage.

Have fun!
