Get ready for a magical day trip unlike any other! On Saturday, September 17, you can head south to San Marcos, TX for the SMTX Mermaid Parade & SPASH Festival. Organized to celebrate San Marcos’ unique river and arts culture, this event will kick off with a parade in downtown San Marcos at 10 a.m. and followed by the festival at 1 p.m. in San Marcos Plaza Park.

The Mermaid Parade start at 10 a.m. and will be lead by Austin Samba and Las Monas de San Antonio bringing their entertaining combination of rhythm, dance, movement, color, joy and giant mermaid puppets! The parade will feature floats, marchers, music and “all things San Marcos.” Click here for a map of the parade route.

The Mermaid SPLASH will take place from 1-8 p.m. in San Marcos Plaza Park. This free, family-friendly event is designed for Merfolk of all ages and includes live music as well as:

  • Eco Village – Festival goers will learn about conservation stewardship at the Eco Village and take part in the variety of interactive activities planned for the whole family including hands-on workshops and presentations by environmental experts.
  • Artisan Alley – Browse a juried art market representing a wide selection of artwork in different mediums, including ceramics, glasswork, metalwork, photography, wood, jewelry, sculpture, painting, upscale/recycle, and mixed media.
  • Food Truck Court – Meet neighbors and new friends while you dine from a variety of food trucks.
