Read up and see if it’s something you would like to do with your kids. Another cool activity you can check out is the SXSW Eco Light Garden at Republic Square Park. Other than that, here are our top 10 Austin family events…
Today:
— Catch a Free Magic Show from Fantastic Magic Camp at Highland Mall from 2 – 2:45 pm. The magicians that head the camp offer free shows so you can see what it’s all about.
— The Sherwood Forest Faire is open today from 10 am – dusk. It’s the only weekend that they’re open on Friday so if you’re wanting to get out of town for the day (only 30 min. away), it’s the perfect escape. Tickets are $9 – $20, kids under 6 are free, tickets are cheaper when you buy online! If you can’t make it today, the faire will be open Saturday and Sunday as well.
— See Faeries by Starlight at the Zilker Botanical Gardens from 7 – 9 pm. Artists and architects have designed a Woodland Faerie Trail with faerie forts in the gardens and visitors are invited to check them out at night with hot cocoa, cider, entertainment and music. $5 per person, $15 per family.
Tomorrow:
— Get weird at the Circus Chickendog Improv Show at the Institution Theatre at 10:30 am. See the juggling unicyclist and bring your kids ready to offer ideas and suggestions at this circus performance full of dog tricks, parrot antics and more. Tickets are $10, you can purchase them here or at the box office.
— Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child presents the Musicians for Microcredit show at Whole Foods Domain full of kid-friendly music, burgers and samples. Live music that’s especially for the kiddos will play from 11 am – 6 pm, with artists like The Que Pastas, Koo Koo Kanga Roo, Little Galaxies, Sara Hickman and more.
— It’s the last day for the Fairytale Threads Consignment Sale where you can find most items 50 percent off! Shop from 10 am – 4 pm at the Austin Sports Center Cedar Park. Save tons of money on clothes, toys and necessities.
— See a clever and fun production of Cat in the Hat at ZACH Theatre, playing at 11 am and 2 pm. Tickets are $14 – $16 and you can buy them here. If you’re on the fence about it, read our review and see why we loved it!
Sunday:
— Come hang with us at Kenny Dorham’s Backyard for the Mad Tiger Fest from 12 – 5 pm with kid-friendly sets from The Octopus Project, Peelander-Z, Anthropos Arts and the McCallum High School Samba Knights. Free with RSVP on Do512 Family! We’ll be there with some crafts for the kids, come say, “Hi!”
— Build Forts and Fairy Homes with the Earth Native Wilderness School at their workshop taking place from 9:30 am – 3:30 pm. Ages 6 – 12 will learn about fairy folklore before venturing to the woods to build their own fairy homes and forts. The class is $35 and you can register here.
— Take it easy like Sunday morning at the Buzz Mill Brunch where you can get $7 bottomless flapjacks, eggs and bacon, PLUS there will be Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas.
