This weekend you can rock out, get your art on, watch “Jaws” in a pool (scary!), slide down a 3-story high inflatable water slide, get down at Bubblepalooza and lots more. Here are our Top 10 Austin Family Events!
Friday:
— Take a dip in El Salido Pool in the Anderson Mill Limited District for Movies at the Pool. “Jaws” will scare the crap out of you and your family at dusk. You can come by early for food trucks from 5 – 8 pm. The movie is free but if you come early, you will have to pay pool admission fees.
— WorkLAB at the Blanton Museum of Art is an open studio from 10 am – 12:30 pm that invites makers of all ages to explore a range of media used by artists, while experimenting with a variety of techniques and enticing materials. Museum admission is required for adults and children ages 12 and over. Cost is $9 for adults, $5 for ages 13 – 21 and $7 for seniors.
— Howl at the moon from Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin at the Full Moon Paddle Potluck that will be taking off from The Expedition Schoo at 8 pm. Take a paddleboard, canoe or kayak out on the lake under the full moon. Cost is $30 per adult and $15 per child 12 and under. Call 512-626-6262 to reserve your spot!
Saturday:
— SplashFest will be at Windy Point Park from 11 am – 11 pm. Your family can check out HUGE, 3-story inflatable waterslides, bounce houses and obstacle courses. There will also be live music from Josh Murley (season 6 contestant from The Voice), food trucks and the night will end with an outdoor movie on a 45-foot movie screen. Tickets are $25 per adults and $22 for kids if you buy at the gate, $22/$19 if you buy online.
— Bubblepalooza returns to the Long Center terrace from 8 am – 3 pm. This free fest features live music, chalk art, water fun and tons of bubbles. T-Rex from ERTH’s Dinosaur Petting Zoo will make a special appearance too!
— Make it a point to check out Quest ATX for their BBQ, Bands + Beer event where you can enjoy live music, food trucks, a bounce house/water slide and give wakeboarding a go, along with paddleboarding and swimming. $10 for adults, kids 12 and under are free. Free entry with a cable pass.
— The Contemporary Austin Laguna Gloria will have Family Day from 11 am – 3 pm where your family can grab some natural elements to add to a collaborative weaving wall overlooking the lagoon. $10 for non-member families, $5 for member families.
Sunday:
— Happy Father’s Day! Here is what’s going on.
— The Sunday Funday Kids Show at The Sanctuary Event Space will feature music from Minor Mishap Marching Band and Guy Forsyth. Tickets are $10 for adults and $4 for kids (under 18), proceeds benefit the Amala Foundation.
— Relax on the lawn of the Long Center for a Concert in the Park from the Austin Symphony. Bring a blanket and a picnic and listen to a special Big Band performance. Free, 7:30 pm.
