Here are our Top Austin Family Events…
— KUTX Live at Mueller Lake Park Amphitheater is a new, free, family-friendly music series that kicks off tonight. Enjoy performances from kid-friendly Jarebear at 7 p.m. hosted by “Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child,” followed by a show from The Octopus Project at 7:45 p.m. Food trucks will be on site, too. Free parking is available in the Mueller garage, adjacent to The Thinkery.
— It’s Free Comic Book Day! Dress up in costume and head over to your favorite local comic store to pick up your very own freebies. Click here for a list of special events at comic book locations all over Austin.
— Are your kids really into trucks, cars, and other vehicles? You won’t want to miss Austin Children’s Shelter’s annual Touch-A-Truck event at Camp Mabry from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. where kids can actually climb and play on the trucks. You can also expect live music, food trucks, and a petting zoo, face painting, barrel-train rides and more. General Admission is $5 per person (for ages 1 & up). You can purchase tickets online here.
— See a massive mechanical spider, a 30-foot fire-shooting robot, a performance by Arc Attack, a maker fashion show and plenty more creativity at Maker Faire Austin at the Palmer Events Center today and tomorrow from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Check out workshops, performers, speakers, arts, crafts, science, engineering and music. Single day child ticket (ages 3-18) is $11 in advance; $12 at the door and a single-day adult ticket is $16 in advance; $18 at the door. Click here to purchase tickets online.
— It’s Lemonade Day! You’ll find hundreds of young entrepreneurs in Austin participating at various stands around the city, selling their own special recipes of everyone’s favorite thirst quencher. — Check out a brand new indoor climbing gym in South Austin! Crux Climbing Center is hosting a big Grand Opening today from 9 a.m. – 11 p.m. This locally-owned 22,000 square foot facility is stocked with rope climbing, bouldering, and strength training areas, a flex space for fitness & yoga classes and a kids’ area. A day pass is only $5! Plus, today’s event includes climbing competitions, DJ, face painting, photo booth, live t-shirt screen-printing, vendor village, silent auction, blood drive, and more.
— Looking for an engaging preschool program for your child? Head over to the Gymboree Play and Music School Readiness Faire from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Arboretum Crossing location. In addition to classroom tours, meeting with teachers and sample activities for kids, there will also be a visit from a fire truck and free ice cream!

— Take mom downtown to browse arts & crafts, listen to live music and get some tasty food at the Pecan Street Festival from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. You’ll find tons of family-friendly fun including inflatables, face painting, balloons, a petting zoo and more. — Enjoy a lovely afternoon at the Umlauf Sculpture Museum & Garden today during their free Family Day event from noon – 4 p.m. Take part in hands-on programs designed for families with children ages 4-10. Listen to stories, do yoga in the garden, create art, enjoy live music and more. Free and open to the public.
— Take mom to a free Mother’s Day Concert at the Capitol. At 7 p.m., you can listen to the Austin Syphonic Band play on the South Steps of the Texas State Capitol.
