Where to Have a Coffee Playdate in Austin

Want to get out of the house and meet some friends for a cup of coffee and conversation while the kids play? There are quite a few places in Austin where you can let the kiddos hang out while you have a good shot at finishing a sentence with a grown-up pal. Check out this roundup of Top Places for Coffee Playdates.

121 Pickle Rd. Austin | 1300 E. 4th Street

Cosmic’s South Austin location on Pickle Road has a terrific patio vibe that includes a sweet little pond where kids can watch koi swimming around, and peek into a huge chicken coop and garden. Coffee shop by day and chill space to get a beer at night, this is a kid and dog-friendly venue for easy hangs. Here you’ll also find food trucks Leroy and Lewis Barbecue, Tommy Want Wingy, and Pueblo Viejo.

1601 West Koenig Lane

Entering this cafe feels like you’re entering a friend’s home, where you can explore its many rooms, back patio, or front porch to find a cozy spot to settle into. But you’ll want to make a beeline for the back patio with a pirate ship play structure and a selection of trucks for kids to push around if you’d prefer to sit outdoors. Brentwood Social House also offers a variety of events like music for kids. Check out their website and Facebook page for updates.

Grab tacos from Veracruz, coffee from Fleet Coffee Co., or shaved ice from SnoRide, and let the kids run around the large outdoor patio. There’s plenty of space to meet up with friends and for the kids to play in a casual, laid-back atmosphere.

3508 S Lamar Blvd

Enjoy a relaxed vibe for both parents and kids at this Austin bake shop and beer garden. With their saying, “We all need to Slow Down, Stay Awhile”, Easy Tiger is just the place for anyone who needs a change of pace. You can find three different locations across Austin, but the South is one of our favorites because of its little tiger den play area.

1400 East 38th 1/2 St.

One of the things we love most about this kid-friendly hot spot is the awesome free kids shows they offer on weekends. Plan to meet pals for breakfast and let the kids boogie to some live music. They also have a large fenced-in outdoor area that’s great for some busy little ones. Just bring some trucks and let them play around outside as you catch up. Click here to check out their website to keep track of their event listings.

With a location directly next door to the Thinkery and across from Mueller Lake Park’s fun playground, this is a fantastic choice for a coffee & playtime meet-up. They have a great food and drink menu for any time of day, and of course, they keep the children in mind with a menu of kid favorites such as pancakes, grilled cheese, and more.

While Lazarus Brewing has two locations, it’s their spot on Airport Blvd. that has an adorable pirate ship for kids to explore while you sit and sip your coffee. They also have special storytimes for kids that they post on their Facebook and Instagram accounts.

4204 Menchaca Rd | 3504 Montopolis Dr.

We love Radio’s Menchaca Rd. location for its large outdoor patio & room to spread out for the kiddos. Plus there are plenty of low-to-the-ground climbing trees for children, too. Enjoy delicious bites from onsite food trucks Veracruz All Natural and Dee Dee. They also host many live music and trivia nights, so keep an eye on their events calendar.

10542 Mechaca Rd

This South Austin spot is serving coffee and cocktails for adults, and there’s no shortage of kid-friendly menu choices at The Hive. This place is buzzing with fun for the kids – check their calendar for events like Family Trivia Night, and Family Bingo!

4615 N Lamar Blvd #303a

With locations in Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio, this Texas chain offers delicious brews and bites. Their Triangle location makes our list because it’s got easy parking and is in such short proximity to Triangle Park where kids can enjoy a small playscape and plenty of yard space to run and play.

Bonus: Espresso Bars in Toy Stores!

Did you know that both Terra Toys and the downtown Austin Toy Joy locations have adjacent coffee shops? You can pop into Yummi Joy downtown for a variety of beverages, ice cream, and candy. Or stop by the Espresso Bar at Terra Toys for a drink or snack before you shop.
