Austin suburbs are definitely among some of the greatest places to raise a family! The greater Austin metro area includes some amazing, award-winning small cities and fantastic neighborhoods full of kid-friendly amenities, such as the charming city to our north — Georgetown, Texas!

Our Do512 Family Field Expert Jess Kilbane, creator of Playdates and Prosecco, shares her top 5 favorite things to do with her family in Georgetown

Less than 30 minutes North of Austin, the Georgetown Square feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Filled with small businesses and individuals who believe strongly in supporting local, Georgetown still gives you that “small town” vibe without getting too far from the big city. And with no shortage of family-friendly activities, there’s always something to do in our tiny (yet growing!) town. To be honest, it was hard to narrow it down, but here are our 5 favorite things to do to in Georgetown:

Picnicking on the Square
One walk around the Square and you’ll see why it was named “The Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas”! Lined with historic buildings, cute shops, and restaurants, a walk on the Square will transport you straight into a Hallmark movie. In the center of the Square sits the historic City Hall and lawn, which is perfect for setting out a picnic blanket and enjoying a glass of wine from one of the wineries or a cold beer (did I mention you are allowed to have open containers!?) while the kids run around. Our favorite picnic picks: grab a giant pizza from 600 Degrees Pizzeria, a few drinks from Mesquite Creek Outfitters, and finish the evening with ice cream from All Things Kids!

Blue Hole Park
Blue Hole Park is a hidden gem! This scenic lagoon is technically part of the South Fork of the San Gabriel River and is just five blocks north of the downtown Square. Perfect for wading, picnicking, and hiking. No entry fee and free street parking make it the perfect spot to pop in and out without too much planning. Bonus: it’s located directly between Hat Creek Burger Company and El Monumento, two of our favorite local spots. We love to put our name in at El Monumento and come down to the river and skip rocks while we wait for our table!

Sweet Eats Fruit Farm
Sweet Eats Fruit Farm is perfect for year-round family fun! Open 7 days a week, Sweet Eats is home to seasonal fruit picking, a pumpkin patch, sunflower fields, hay maze, zip lines, petting zoo, and more! Our family favorites: the giant jump pad, apple slingshots, and pony rides.

Featuring 18 holes, a Pro Shop, an arcade, and party/outing options, Centex is a great option for everything from family outings to date nights. Inner Space Cavern
Hidden for 10,000 right below 1-35, Inner Space Cavern is one of the best preserved caves in all of Texas! Discovered by the Texas Highway Department, you can now take one of three types of tours: the adventure, hidden passages, or wild cave, depending on your comfort and skill level. The adventure tour is for beginners and most kid friendly. At a constant 72 degrees year round and no flooding, Inner Space Cavern is perfect any time of year!
