On Saturday, August 3, you can be a part of the excitement as 19,000 eco-friendly yellow rubber ducks race down Lady Bird Lake for a wonderful cause at the 6th Annual Austin Duck Derby! Presented by Kidd Roofing in support of the Austin Boys & Girls Club Foundation, your participation can help make a big splash for their amazing youth programs. The Duck Derby is one part duck race, and one part free, family-friendly fest. Read on for event details and learn how to adopt a duck to enter the race!
Head out to the day’s Duck Fest activities from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the grassy area between the lake and the Austin American-Statesman parking lot, which will include food tucks, live music by Cilantro Boombox (for shaking your tail feathers), and kids games. The most exciting part happens at 11 a.m. when the duck drop launches more than 19,000 eco-friendly toy ducklings into the water from the Ann W. Richards Congress Bridge. Ducks will float to the finish line with a little help from water currents and sprays from the Austin Fire Department. The “adoptive parents” of these winning ducks will earn great prizes!

Single ducks can be adopted for $5, or choose a Quack Pack (6) for $25, or a whole flock (25) for $100. This year’s prizes include a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta, a weeklong trip to Telluride, Colorado for two, an HP Omen gaming computer, custom made cruiser bicycle with helmet and much more!
Your duck adoptions will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area together with the Austin Boys and Girls Club Foundation—ensuring that thousands of local youth can reach their full potential to become productive, caring and responsible citizens.
