Austin Film Festival’s popular Summer Film Camp is back for it’s 17th year offering an amazing day camp full of screenwriting, filmmaking and claymation workshops for ages 9 – 18. The critically-acclaimed program promises to teach, inspire and help kids and young adults create their very own fabulous short films. Morning, afternoon, and day-long sessions are held June 3 – July 26 (including the week of July 4th) in Downtown Austin at First Baptist Church (901 Trinity Street). Our own Do512 Family kiddos had the best time at AFF’s camps the last couple of years. Read on for more details and a discount code.
At Summer Film Camp, the focus is on two things — storytelling and collaboration. In this immersive and creative environment, campers will turn their stories into their very own movie. All students will get to practice their developing filmmaking skills (be it directing, camera operating, sound recording, or editing). Collaboration is a challenging but necessary aspect of filmmaking, since every production is made up of many crew members playing different, but equally important, roles. Also, all camp instructors have backgrounds in both teaching and filmmaking so they can give students the guidance and support they need to truly shine.
Kids will also get to meet exclusive guest speakers that are major Hollywood writers, producers or directors. Past speakers include Caroline Thompson (The Nightmare Before Christmas), Robert Mark Kamen (The Fifth Element, The Karate Kid) and more. And finally, to finish it all off with a bang, AFF will host the Summer Camp Showcase where students who attended camp will get to show off their hard work on the big screen.
