How You Can Help Austin’s Make-A-Mask Program

Are you sewing masks at home for your own family and neighbors? Want to lend a hand in helping our local healthcare workers? Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), especially masks, are in dire need, and if you have sewing skills, you can help!

Through Make-A-Mask Austin, people can drop off homemade, sewn masks to give to doctors and nurses treating coronavirus patients.

Jennifer Reyes, Director of Clinical Operations at Victory Medical, was struggling with the lack of PPE within her clinics and turned to the community via social media for assistance in sewing masks for healthcare workers. Make-A-Mask Austin was created on Facebook as a “Call to action for all local sewers”. The sewn masks are worn OVER their surgical and N95 masks but only the sewn masks will be changed out in between each patient, prolonging the life of their medical grade masks.

Want to help? First visit the Make-A-Mask Austin website for step-by-step instructions and safety requirements. Please be sure to follow all steps, including logging the number of masks you’re making so that the organizers can keep track of donations. There are several drop-off locations in Austin where you can donate your completed mask, such as Honey Bee Quilt Store, Sew Much More, and Tomilson’s Feed.

For much more info and to get involved, please visit Make-A-Mask Austin website.
