Do512 Family - What to do in Austin with Kids

Bad Parents at FronteraFest

Looking to catch a show that helps you feel like a better parent? Look no further than Bad Parents, a comedy written by local playwright, Max Langert, and based in part on the Listen to Your Mother essays of Ava Love Hanna (Contributing Writer for Do512 Family) and Tristan Mercado. The play is about five adults at a kid’s 5th birthday party who worry that they’re bad parents. They might have a point.

Part of the FronteraFest Short Fringe, Bad Parents, will be at Hyde Park Theatre on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 8 pm. Tickets are $16 and can be purchased online here. While this play is about kids, it is not for kids. This is for you, parents.

The tongue-in-cheek comedy about raising children includes local performers: Ava Love Hanna, Paul Hanna, Tristan Mercado, Max Langert, and Roxy Becker and was commissioned by ScriptWorks.

FronteraFest is a huge fringe theater event that features tons of different performances all over Austin from Jan. 14 – Feb. 15. Plays are divided into categories: Short Fringe, plays that are no longer than 25 minutes; Long Fringe, plays that are 90 minutes or less; B.Y.O.V. (Bring Your Own Venue), where participants bring their work and their own venue – locations included houses, a church and the sidewalk on South Congress; and Mi Casa Es Su Teatro, productions that are performed in local homes and other surprising locales.

There is a lot of info and a lot of theatre jammed into this little fest, check out all of the details here.
