Austin families can consider a new charter school option for their children this fall. BASIS Austin Primary is opening in North Central Austin in August 2020 for grades K–4 with a second campus for middle school and high school to follow in August 2021. The BASIS Charter School network is known to have some of the best charter schools in the nation, and this is their first campus in Austin.

BASIS Charter Schools are open-enrollment, tuition-free public charter schools serving grades K–12 with an internationally acclaimed liberal arts and sciences curriculum. Their academic program offers foundations in language, literacy, civics, history, science, math, engineering and technology, Mandarin, performance arts, visual arts, fine arts, and music.

–> On Campus, Distance Learning, or Both
As parents try to wrap their heads around what school will look like this fall, BASIS Austin Primary already knows. The new school, like all of the network’s schools, is focused on flexibility, safety, and parent options. In these uncertain times, BASIS Austin Primary will let families choose whether on-campus education or distance learning at home is best for their children. In fact, families can choose their initial preference for the start of the 2020–21 school year, and can make adjustments along the way. As conditions or family situations change, students will be able to transition from on-campus learning in the classroom to distance learning, and back, or vice versa, at specific points during the school year.
