Austin may be known for its BBQ, but more and more ATX restaurants are catering to Gluten Free patrons. Here are some of our fave GF options out there. Cause we’ve got your back on the celiac.
Gluten-Free + Gluten-Friendly Restaurants
— Hopdoddy Burger Bar
Hopdoddy offers delicious gluten-free options at their seven Austin locations. You can choose from any of their burgers and ask for a gluten-free bun (or even lettuce-wrapped – looking at you, New Year’s Goals). Hopdoddy is great for dining in or takeout and you can get their signature boozy drinks in-house or to go.
— Kerbey Lane
This diner is a favorite for brunch and is very kid-approved. Plenty of Kerbey Lane Cafe’s menu is available for GF diners (ask your server for a copy of the Vegan & Gluten Free Guide for suggestions). Well-loved menu items like the Kerbey Queso and breakfast tacos are safe, as are GF french toast and pancakes, including a weekly rotating special pancake. Don’t forget that kids eat free on Tuesdays!
— Maudie’s
With a menu that lists its many gluten-free options, Maudie’s is a go-to for Austin families, food allergies or not. Try their GF Huevos Rancheros, Enchiladas Perfecto, or the Fajita Tacos with a side of their GF chips. Find your closest Maudie’s here.
— Flower Child
With three locations in Austin open for dine-in or takeout, Flower Child boasts a healthy, mostly gluten-free menu. We recommend their GF Mac and Cheese, but there’s nothing on the menu we’ve tried and haven’t liked. Enjoy!
— Sway
Nearly everything on Sway’s menu is gluten-free. We talked about this gorgeous restaurant in our Favorite To-Go Spots, but Sway is making another appearance here because it’s just that good. Try the Green Curry, the Salt + Pepper Tofu, and the Vegetable Fried Rice – all celiac-friendly options. Take some friends and share these dishes because you’re going to want to try them all.
— Soto South Lamar
Since sushi is naturally gluten-free, there are plenty of options in ATX for awesome sushi. We’re super impressed by the food at Soto and also how much our kids enjoy eating there. We’d consider Soto casual fine dining and they’re excellent with kids, naturally have gluten-free options, and the bonus of a vegetarian sushi menu.
— Peoples RX
With a great grab-and-go selection, People’s RX has been an Austin staple more more than 40 years and has a large selection of gluten-free items. Try the Beet & Citrus Salad, the Everything Deviled Eggs and their huge GF baked goods selection.
More Gluten-Free Spots
The gluten-free crust at Via 313 is celebrated for lacking that cardboardy texture some GF pizzas suffer from. Olive & June’s Italian dishes can be made with gluten-free pasta, a rarity in Austin. You’ll also be happy at any of these restaurants and bakeries:
