We have visions of sugar plums dancing in our heads and what better way to take a break from holiday shopping, baking, and entertaining than to enjoy afternoon tea with your loved ones? Did you know afternoon tea came about because The Duchess of Bedford, circa 1840, said she became hungry in the afternoons and needed something to eat between lunch and late dinner? Same, actually. Indulge like royalty at these local afternoon teas this holiday season.

Love this list! But it’s never called “high tea” in England or other countries. Traditionally, High tea is different from afternoon tea (which is what you mean here). High tea is an evening meal eaten at a high table (a regular dining table vs. a low table more like a coffee table, which might be more like a fancy tea). High tea is a basic meal eaten by average people and is not necessarily fancy. It’s a mis-translation between America and the UK! So it always grates to see that term in this context.
Thank you, Kay! We’ve updated that are are glad to know the difference now. (And we’d love to particiate in both, lol)
