The celebration will include a ribbon cutting ceremony with music by the SoundWaves, a march across the Boardwalk led by Eastside Panther Drumline, family entertainment and a special Blue Lapis Light performance at 11:45 am!
Blue Lapis Light is an aerial performance group that creates site-specific productions. For this celebration, six dancers will perform over the lake while suspended from the columns under the IH-35 bridge. The Boardwalk and the performance symbolize joining east and west Austin.
The Boardwalk will close the 1.1 mile gap in the Trail at Lady Bird Lake. This gap has caused the 3,000 – 15,000 people that use the Trail every day to divert onto the narrow sidewalk and travel along Riverside Dr., crossing more than 30 business entrances and six lanes of I-35 access roads to travel east or west and use the south side of the trail. The Boardwalk will make for a much safer trail, and it’s beautiful too! Check out these pictures from KUT.
