Summer is wrapping up, folks. We have two full weeks left before it’s back to rushed mornings, homework, extracurricular activities and sack lunches. It’s back to school time! Which also means it’s time for back to school clothes! Austin has a lot to offer when it comes to first-day duds, so we’ve compiled a list of our favorite places to go Back to School Shopping in Austin, from high-end, to thrift, and everything in between.

Cheer on little wakeboarder wanna-be’s at the Young Guns + Groms event at Quest ATX, Austin’s newest wakeboarding cable park, on Saturday, Aug. 9 from 9 am – 12 pm. Stick around because later that afternoon you can check out the Summer Sounds Series where you can swim around, stand up paddle board and kayak while listening to live bands for just $10.
“It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing.” Celebrate swing music at the American Swing session of Planet Music on Friday, Aug. 8 from 7 – 9 pm at the Dougherty Arts Center. Learn a dance routine and listen to a great band – all for free!
It’s Family Saturday at Laguna Gloria this weekend, Aug. 9 from 11 am – 3 pm. Swing by for family-friendly performances, and a chance to meet local artists and create art to take home.
Get pumped for Shark Week, Aug. 10 – 17 at Terra Toys where you can have a BITING good time, ever day from 9 am – 8 pm.
The Austin Summer Musical for Children group will bring Austin Families The Wizard of Oz in 16 shows from August 9 – August 24 at the Boyd Vance Theater inside the George Washington Carver Museum! With the exception of a gala fundraiser at one of the shows, admission to all other 15 shows will be FREE!
This weekend, Save Our Springs Alliance hosts a full day of fun at Austin’s beloved Barton Springs at the 2nd Annual Barton Springs Fest. Come and celebrate the day in 1992 when the City Council adopted the citizen-initiated Save Our Springs Ordinance with eco-tours, poetry, kids activities, live music, and – of course – a dip in the sweet, cool waters of the springs.
On Saturday, August 9 from 1 – 3 pm, swing by Learning Express Toys of Bee Cave for a special Meet and Greet with Elsa from the hit movie, “Frozen”.
