Easter Egg-Filler Ideas

Looking for a few easy ways to keep egg hunts lots of fun for the kiddos without buying lots of candy and trinkets? Here’s some ideas on Easter Egg-Fillers for your family hunt:

— Puzzle Pieces: Take a new puzzle and put individual pieces into your empty plastic eggs to hide. The kids will need to find all to complete the puzzle as a family activity.

— LEGO sets: Take an easy-to-build LEGO set and put your bricks into eggs so that kids need to find all to make their eggs. (If you have a household with several kids, color-code their eggs so that they know which ones go with their own LEGO set.)

— I Owe You Rewards: Write out mini notes to place in your eggs that would be great customized rewards for your kids. Examples: Extra 30 minutes of Screen Time, You pick the game on Family Game Night, Extra book at bedtime, You pick a local restaurant to order take-out from, Free Pass on a Chore for the Week, You pick the movie for a Family Movie Night, etc.

— More Non-Candy Items: There might be some fun things already sitting around your house that you can consider for candy alternatives: coins, marbles, hair clips, lip balm, stickers, toy cars, crafty things such as beads and string to make bracelets.

— No Eggs? No Problem: Instead of using eggs this year, you can try setting up an backyard (or indoor) hunt using these materials: painted rocks, balls (tennis balls, bouncy balls, etc), inflated balloons, homemade origami, fresh fruit such as oranges or apples (just make sure ALL the fruits are found or that could turn into a bit of a rotten disaster to come). You could also place treats in plastic containers such as Tupperware or even in recycled items such as emptied and washed tubs of cream cheese, margarine, cottage cheese, etc.
