SXSWedu Expo @ Austin Convention Center, 2 – 8 pm -> This FREE expo invites learners of all ages to explore their immediate and long-term education and career goals. Attendees can engage with local education initiatives through hands-on, interactive exhibits. Register online to attend.

LABRARY @ O. Henry Museum, 11 am – 7, Mar. 7 – 11 -> The LABRARY is an experimental pop-up library that engages students in designing and building future library machines. It will be a place to play with media, share ideas, discuss the future of the library and create and exhibit your own library machines. It’s all taking place on the lawn of the museum for free.

SXSW Gaming Expo @ Palmer Events Center, Mar. 7 – 9 pm -> 1 – 9 pm, the gaming Expo is free and open to the public with Guest Pass wristbands, which can be found here. The expo combines well-loved elements of geek culture with the cross-console video game world.

SXSW Create @ Long Center, 11 am – 6 pm, Mar. 7 – 9 -> From 3D printing to drones to biohacking and much more, this community event showcases the disruptive solutions that are shaping our future. Experience all the mind-expanding and hands-on fun, for FREE!

Kiss the Clock @ UT Austin, 11:30 am -> The Give More Than You Take Foundation in association with Google+ wants to kiss away a moment that will always be a somber memory, the shootings of Aug. 1, 1966. Give the beautiful clock a big community hug and thousands of kisses by breaking the Guiness Book of World Records for the number of smooches at the same time.

4th Annual Go by GoLab Carnival @ GoLab Austin, 6 – 8:30 pm -> Music from Ephraim Owens and Anthropos Arts, live art from Tina Schweiger and gaming in the Plantronics Game Center. There will be treats from Live Soda Kombucha, Revolution Spirits, local beer and healthy finger foods. Bring a carnival mask and dancing shoes to this free, family friendly party!

SXSW Community Workshop: Austin School of Film Youth M.A.F.I.A. @ TBA, 10 am -10 pm, Mar. 8 – 9 -> Texas high school students ages 14 – 19 come together to create short films in only 24 hours during the Annual youth M.A.F.I.A. Day Film Festival & Screening. Teams have 24 hours to write, shoot and edit a short film. Finished films will be screened for the public at an official SXSW Film Showcase during the festival (Wednesday, Mar. 12 at the Vimeo Theater at the Convention Center, 11 am). There is VERY limited space to this event, click here for more info and registration information, $10.

GoBank #PuppyHour @ PetRelocation, 9 am – 5 pm, Mar. 8 – 9 -> Take a break from your SXSW schedule to play with puppies, enjoy refreshments and enter a raffle hosted by Austin Pets Alive!  All puppies will be up for adoption, but if you aren’t ready to take the plunge and get a new pet, come play with the puppies anyway!

Ron Campbell Drawing Live @ Wild About Music, 1 – 9 pm, Mar. 8 – 15 -> Join Wild About Music each day during SXSW for this rare artist appearance and show of Beatles Cartoon Art. Campbell is the artist responsible for the Beatles Yellow Submarine, as well as cartoons like Scooby Doo, Winnie the Pooh, The Jetsons, The Flintstones, Rugrats and dozens more. Visitors can chat with the artist and watch him paint original works each day. His art will be for sale and there will be an extensive array of collectibles and apparel to commemorate the Beatles.

Austin School of Film Youth 3D Workshop @ Carver Museum and Cultural Center, 10:30 am – 3:30 pm -> This free workshop, open to ages 11 – 18, invites participants to use their imagination to create miniature 3D worlds using handmade animation techniques with award-winning animator, Jeanne Stern. Finished creations will screen at 2014 SXSW Official Film at the Vimeo Theater on Mar. 12 at 11 am. This is open to only 15 people, first come, first serve.

Priceless Pennies @ Mount Bonnell, 9 am -> Art is in the value of the CENTiment behind it, so grab a penny, paint it, etch it, form it. Let your imaginations run wild. Then meet at the foothill of Mt. Bonnell at 10 am to race up the stairs and await further instructions from the Give More than you Take Foundation.

SXSW Eco Light Garden @ Republic Square Park, evenings, Mar. 8 – 15 -> Swing by the park to see new installations that play with light, sound and geometry. The Light Garden is free and open to the public.

The Spotify Studio Unofficial SX 2014 @ Spotify House, 11 am – 2 pm -> Ages 13 – 18 are invited to mix, write, and master the music industry at this special event with free workshops in DJing, songwriting and music marketing. Girls Rock Camp, Anthropos Arts and ReRoute Music have come together to host this exciting day where teenagers will spark their creativity and become inspired through music. Free with RSVP.

Freedomland Lazertag @ Trinity Center, 4 – 7 pm -> Life, Liberty and… Lazer Tag! Adults and kids are welcome to play laser tag and enjoy great food. Register here for this free event!

Silly Shoe Project and.. The Swap! @ Zilker Park, 2 pm -> The Give More than you Take Foundation wants everyone to get funkyl. Take a show (or two) and make them into silly art. Meet at Zilker Park near the Volleyball courts at 2 pm. You can’t leave with your own pair, you have to swap!

SXKids @ The Little Yoga House, 1 pm, Mar. 10 – 14 -> The Little Yoga House will be holding a special Spring Break Camp for the week from 9 am – 1 pm. At the end of camp each day, you can join the little yogis on the lawn for free live music performances at 1 pm. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for lineup announcements.

Noise of Love @ Texas State Capitol, 7 pm -> The Give More than you Take Foundation invites you to come to the capitol with any instruments you would like. At precisely 7:01 pm, everyone will play their heart out for 5 minutes. The sounds may be silly, but it’s all just beautiful music!

Proper Entertainment Showcase @ Symphony Square Amphitheatre, 11 am – midnight, Mar. 11 – 13 -> Three days of free music during SXSW. Tuesday’s lineup includes soul, folk and funk acts like Sour Bridges, Ruby Jane, Sons of Fathers, KP & the Boom Boom and many more. Free and all ages.

Waterloo Records Official SX 2014 @ Waterloo Records, 12 – 7 pm, Mar. 12 – 15 -> Free, open to the public, all ages. Lineup includes Wild Child, La Luz, Talib Kweli, Jake Bugg, Gary Numan, Tinariwen and many, many more.

KGSR Live Broadcast Official SX 2014 @ The W Hotel, 6 – 9:30 am, Mar. 12 – 15 -> Music starts bright and early! A $5 donation at the door will go to Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas. LIneups include Elle King, Bob Schneider, Suzanne Vega, ZZ Ward, Phantogram and many, many more.

KUTX Live Unofficial SX 2014 @ The Four Seasons, 7 – 11 am, Mar. 12 – 15 -> No wristband required, shows are $10 which will get you a sweet morning show, a breakfast taco, a granola bar and unlimited coffee. These early morning shows include acts like Wild Child, Typhoon, Phox, Mother Falcon, Lee Fields and the Expressions and many more.

Family Music Meltdown: Austin Nap After Party @ Thinkery, 5 – 8 pm -> This one is for the families! Located in Mueller (so you don’t have to deal with traffic and will be able to find a parking spot), this show includes music from Koo Koo Kanga Roo, The Que Pastas, Elizabeth McQueen and other special guests TBA. Free and open to everyone! Kids will be entertained by the children museum fun inside the Thinkery, or can play on the Thinkery’s playground or at Mueller Park across the street if they start feeling antsy. It’s basically perfect.

Austin School of Rock’s Day Party @ Scholz Garten, 1 – 6 pm -> The party starts at 1 pm, with a full day of Under 18 bands that feature School of Rock Austin members. Free and all ages, bring your friends and your dogs.

Totally Cool Totally Art Unofficial SXSW Teen Showcase @ Rosewood Recreation Center, 1 – 4 pm -> The art program for teenagers, Totally Cool Totally Art, will be showcasing their work and celebrating with music from Grace London, the Peterson Brothers Band and more. Free and open to everyone.

Smart Girls at the Bat Cave @ Lewis Carnegie Studio, 12 – 4 pm -> Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls and Austin Bat Cave have teamed up to create a fun workshop for girls in which they will learn interviewing tips and techniques. They will showcase what they’ve learned at this performance from Hospital Ships, Your Friend and another unannounced band’s performance. Workshop participants will use the skills they’ve learned to do a live interview, and everyone is invited! (Workshop is Mar. 8, but it is already full)

Are you Afraid of Bats? @ Congress Avenue Bridge, 6 pm -> Walk to the Congress Ave. Bridge and bring an origami paper bat. The event says you’ll have to “let your bat fly away,”… Not sure what that means, we hope they aren’t planning on throwing a bunch of paper bats off of the bridge…

Heatwave Unofficial SX 2014 @ Cherrywood Coffeehouse, 12 – 9 pm -> Lots of electro and dream pop will fill the air at Cherrywood Coffeehouse! This show is free and open to the public, and Cherrywood is a great family-friendly venue. Lineup includes Love Inks, Breton, Dems, Ephrata and more.

South by San Jose

South by San Jose Unofficial SX 2014 @ Hotel San Jose, 12 pm, Mar. 13 – 15 -> The hotel parking lot will be transformed into a live music venue with bands, local vendors and concessions. All shows are free and open to everyone, and its a popular meeting place for locals and visitors. Lineup includes music from Ana Tijoux, Temples, Dum Dum Girls, Avid Dancer, The Tontons, Hurray for the Riff Raff and much more.

Jimi Hendrix Celebration Official SX 2014 @ Butler Park, 6 – 9:30 pm -> SXSW and the United States Postal Service have teamed up to present this free celebration of Jimi Hendrix. This special tribute includes guitar luminaries like Slash, Rusty Anderson, Robby Krieger and Wayne Kramer. Vintage Trouble and Los Lonely Boys will also perform. The Outdoor Stage at Butler Park is open to the public with free Guest Pass wristbands, available in advance online or on-site at the event.

The Renegade Craft Fair @ Palmer Events Center, 12 – 8 pm, Mar. 13 – 15 -> Peruse the best and brightest indie-craft talents from across the US and abroad at the Renegade Craft Fair. There will be music, food trucks, booze and more, plus goods from 200+ makers, games by MakeATX and workshops. This event  is open to the public with free Guest pass wristbands, available in advance online or on-site.

Foster the People, Washed Out, Young & Sick Official SX 2014 @ Butler Park, 6 – 9:30 pm -> Three-time Grammy nominees, Foster the People, will perform for free at Butler Park in downtown. Washed Out will perform at 7 pm and Young & Sick will go on at 6 pm. This is free and open to the public with free Guest Pass wristbands, available in advance online or on-site at the event.

Quantum Collective Southwest Invasion @ Whole Foods Market Downtown, 10 am – 10 pm, Mar. 14 – 15 -> Held on the rooftop plaza, the Quantum Collective Southwest Invasion will be two days of free music from acts like Lisa Marie Presley, Matisyahu, Suzanne Vega, Dirty Vegas, OK Sweetheart, The Growl and many more. Free!

Music by the Slice @ Homeslice Pizza, 12 – 8 pm, Mar. 14 – 15 -> This annual charity day party will include music from Splashh, Lost in the Trees, Avi Buffalo, Roadkill Ghost Choir and many more.

A Grand Ole Time in Austin Unofficial Day Party @ Maria’s Taco Xpress, 11 am – 10 pm -> Free and open to the public, get yourself some tacos and enjoy live music from Ryan Culwell, Mike Stinson, Blackie and the Rodeo Kinds, The Wagoneers and many more.

XSXSW 7 Hillgrass Bluebilly Showcase @ Austin Moose Lodge No. 1735, 6 – midnight -> party on the east side with Peewee Moore, Pine Hill Haints, Left Lane Cruiser and Possessed by Paul James. Open to the public, free parking, $10 donation, food and full bar.

Girls Rock Austin Unofficial SXSW Day Party @ Cherrywood Coffeehouse, 11:30 am -> See what Girls Rock Camp Austin members have been up to at this showcase at the family friendly Cherrywood Coffeehouse. All ages, free and open to the public.

On the Lawn Unofficial SX 2014 @ Central Market North Lamar, 12 – 9 pm -> Chill at Central Market and let the kiddos play on the lawn and on the playscape while relaxing to music from Jitterbug Vipers, Ginger Leigh Band, Gina Chavez, The Belle Sounds, Jamie Lou and more. $10 suggested donation.
