Kiddie Acres has been a fun destination for families with young children since 1979. Located in North Austin (4800 W. Howard Lane), you’ll find this little amusement park featuring classic carnival-style rides for the little ones, including a tiny Ferris wheel, boats, cars, airplanes, a miniature train, carousel, and pony rides.
If you have never been to Kiddie Acres before, let us inform you that you may be surprised by how antique everything looks. You may feel like you’re stepping back in time. Things are not polished and fancy, and the park is very small. But don’t let appearances fool you. The kids will LOVE it! There is a charm to these old classic mechanical rides that can’t be beat.
The rides are perfect for preschool-age children. There are no scary rides and all except the Ferris Wheel stay low to the ground, which makes it a perfect place for very young children to climb aboard for their first amusement park thrills. Once the kids are older than age five, however, they might have a hard time squeezing their legs into some of the tiny seats. Although, older kids can still play a round of mini golf or ride the carousel without trouble.
There are also real ponies to ride! The ponies are always a big attraction, and you may find this to be the only time kids will have to wait in a line at Kiddie Acres. These animals are gentle and sweet, and offer a great opportunity for your child’s first pony ride.
The area that includes the rides and ponies is very well shaded, thankfully. There is also a miniature train ride going around the park as well as a very minimal miniature golf course that is not shaded. So be sure to bring sunscreen, hats, etc. And if you are going during the summer months, try to get there as soon as the park opens. The rides are mostly made of metal, so you can imagine how hot they must get.
— Admission & Discount Days: Parking is free and there is no entrance fee to the park. But ticket prices for the rides are not exactly cheap on a non-discount day. You will spend $20 plus tax for one child to ride everything. Your best bet for savings is to go on Wednesdays when tickets are discounted to only $1.40 a piece. Or if you go with a grandparent on Sundays, you can also get tickets for $1.40 (a grandparent must be present). And those who show a military I.D. can also get the discount ticket price at any time. You can also click here for a coupon for a free ride ticket with the purchase of 10 tickets.
— Regular Ticket Prices:
- Single ticket – $2.50
- Ten tickets (Round) – $20
- Twenty five tickets (Discount) – $37.50
- One hundred tickets (Group rate) – $140
- Ride & Golf Tickets Never Expire Until Used
You are not able to bring in any outside food, but they do sell popcorn, hot dogs, pizza and other items at the concession stand. Click here for the menu and prices.
Kiddie Acres is definitely a great spot for a birthday party for the preschool age. Click here for info about party packages.
