How would your kids like to make some summer memories learning how to ride and care for horses? Sounds like a dream for many young animal lovers! Rio Vista Farm’s Summer Horseback Riding Camp pairs your kids with experienced staff, creating safe summer fun and learning since 1984.

Rio Vista Farm’s Summer Camp includes daily riding lessons for ages 7-16 where kids learn the basics of true horsemanship and establish a good riding foundation. Campers learn to respect the hard work, dedication and fun involved in working with horses. No prior riding experience is necessary. Children are divided into riding groups based on their skill level from beginner on up. With a maximum of 20 campers per week, small groups give kids the opportunity for a more personalized instruction from well-qualified staff.

Camp activities at a glance:

  • Campers are assigned their own horse for the week. They share in the care of the horse with a partner.
  • Campers learn to be responsible for the daily care, grooming and well being of their horse.
  • Twice-Daily riding lessons on Monday and Friday, with afternoon rides taking place in the covered arena.
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday morning riding lessons for all with group swimming in the afternoons.
  • Lessons on veterinary care, safety, grooming, and horse show preparation.
  • Arts and crafts and games relating to the horse.
  • Weekly trips to the breeding farm on site are always popular (bring some extra carrots or treats for the mamas and babies).
  • Lunch and snack times are spent in the air-conditioned lounge.
  • Camp closes with a special camp horse show, with all campers competing and receiving ribbons, along with special awards earned throughout the week.  Parents are encouraged to attend the show, which begins each Friday at 2 p.m.

Weekly sessions run from Monday ˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗ 4 p.m. at the cost is $375 per camper.  Rio Vista Farm is located just a short drive to Del Valle. (Note that due to COVID-19 safety precautions a van shuttle service is not available this year.)
