Lions’ Birthday Party at the Austin Zoo

UPDATE: The date for this event has been changed to Wednesday, Dec. 28 from 2:30 – 3 p.m.

Have you ever been to a birthday party for a lion? You’re invited to join in on the excitement at the Austin Zoo for the 3rd birthday party of lions, Sango and Jelani, on Monday, Dec. 26 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28 from 2:30 – 3 p.m.! Zookeepers will have some special treats for Sango and Jelani to enjoy, and lion-themed treats will be served to human guests, too, as long as they last.

The Austin Zoo welcomed these two male Transvaal lions in last spring. They are brothers who were displaced by renovations taking place at their former home, Reid Park Zoo in Tucson, Arizona. The Austin Zoo, a rescue facility and animal sanctuary, was happy to provide a new permanent home to these animals.

lionsZoo Hours: Even if you can’t make it to the birthday party, you can see Sango and Jelani during regular winter zoo hours — daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more info, visit the Austin Zoo website.
