Not to be confused with Pi Day, which happens in a few months, January 23 is National Pie Day. Turns out, this fun food day started in the 1970s and is sponsored by The American Pie Council. We’re jumping at the chance for the perfect excuse to grab a slice at Austin’s best places for pie. Check out our recommendations below.

— Upper Crust Bakery
At this highly-rated bakery, everything is made from scratch. From lunch to fresh bread, baked goods, and yes, PIES. Upper Crust Bakery has tons of seasonal pie options, and their Pecan Pie and Dutch Apple are available daily. They’re located at 4508 Burnet Road and are open every day but Sunday.
— Tumble 22
While known for its Nashville Hot Chicken, Tumble 22 also boasts a big selection of mouth-watering pies. Flavors like Apple, Pecan, Buttermilk, Chocolate, and Blueberry Streusel are available by the slice or by the whole pie. With five locations in the Austin area, you can find your closest one here.

Y’all. They have key lime pie. That would be enough to get us there but Chez Zee offers so much more. Known for their lunches and brunches, this bistro uses locally sourced ingredients and has a huge menu. Their pie options by the slice include Coconut Cream, Kahlua Crunch, Peanut Butter, and of course, Key Lime. They also offer Granny Smith Apple as an 8″ pie. Chez Zee is located at 5406 Balcones Drive, and you can find their dine-in and to-go hours here.

From mini pies to full-sized, this bakeshop at 1905 S. First Street has your pie needs covered. For their full-sized pies, you can try their monthly mini pie flavors, or the tried and true Chocolate Bourbon Pecan. This month’s mini pies at Sugar Mama’s include Cherry Almond and Chocolate Cream.

After opening in Lubbock in 2011, The Pie Bar came to Austin in 2021. Their shop is located at 8900 South Congress Ave and is cozy and welcoming. With a ton of different options in crust and filling, and sizes ranging from mini to full, you can check out their selections here. Full-sized custom pies are available same-day, and all of their desserts are baked in-house daily.
— Quack’s 43rd Street Bakery
Quack’s 43rd Street Bakery has pies by the slice or whole in flavors like Cherry, Key Lime Tart, Apple Cinnamon, Chocolate Cream, and Coconut Cream, in addition to their monthly specials. They’re open seven days a week and their baked goods are first come, first served. Quack’s also has two more locations including Captain Quack’s Coffee Shop and Lady Quackenbush’s Cakery.
