Did you know that January is National Ice Skating Month? It’s time to lace up those skates and hit the ice! North Austin’s Chaparral Ice offers a few chances for kids to try ice skating for free.10887617_10202256724098366_8522946080842206446_o— Here are the details on when you can skate & how much it costs:
Public skating times are offered at Chaparral Ice every day. Regular admission is $6, and skate rental is $4 for children & adults. Kids 5 years of age and under skate for only $5 on Saturday and Sunday (this includes admission & skate rental fees).

— Here’s how you can skate for free:

  • Kids ages 5 & under get a free skate rental on Monday-Friday afternoons with paid admission. (Click here to check the schedule.)
  • First-timers (ages 6 & up) can try a free skating lesson every Saturday at noon.
  • Kids can try a free hockey lesson (by appointment) on Sundays. (Email [email protected] to set up a time.)

Chaparral Ice also offers several special events each month. Save the date for Jan. 17 & 31 when they will offer two U.S. Figure Skating-inspired events filled with games, prizes, exhibitions, educational workshops, and more. Look for more information to come on their website and on Do512 Family.
