Oh, mamas, it’s time to get your dance on! Saturday, May 10, Pachanga Fest comes to Fiesta Gardens with a line-up that will have your whole family moving and grooving. From noon – 11 pm, the fam can enjoy an immersive experience into Latino culture through arts, crafts, music, food, workshops and more.
Pachanga Fest is an annual Austin music festival that celebrates the impact of Latin American music and culture in our lives. The music line-up includes rock, alternative, tejano, mariachi, cumbia, salsa, electronic, funk, hip-hop, indie rock – all unified under the theme of “the sound is brown.” Acts include Julieta Venegas, El Gran Silencio, Gaby Moreno, Chicha Libre, Del Castillo and more. Click here to see the schedule. There will be a children’s area, Niños Rock Pachanga, with it’s own line-up, including all-sister band Tiarra Girls, percussion group Maracatu Austin, and DMK, a Depeche Mode cover band from Bogata, Columbia. Niños Rock Pachanga is like a mini-fest within the fest-fest especially for your kids. There will a photobooth, a piñata party, face painting, a cupcake walk, hands-on screen printing demos and craft areas where kids can make floral halos, masks, papel picado (Mexican folk art tissue paper designs) and Ojo de Dios (“God’s eye” yarn weavings). There will also be music workshops and demos in songwriting, accordion and percussion. This family friendly area will inspire children to discover and learn more about Latino music, arts and culture. Click here to see the full music schedule at Niños Rock Pachanga. Probably the most enticing thing about Pachanga is the amazing food you will eat. Ten restaurants will be participating, serving up their finest tacos. There will be salsa bars, paletas from Mom & Pops and more. The tacos are such a hit at Pachanga that instead of having a VIP pass, they’re selling VIT (Very Important Taco Pass) tickets. The VIT can be purchased as an add-on to your General Admission tickets and they include one signature taco from all 10 restaurants and other treats (like air conditioned bathrooms). Click here for details. Tickets can be purchased in advance here for $33. Children under 12 get in for free with a paid adult. Want free tickets? Don’t we all. Enter below for a chance to win two adult tickets! This giveaway is now closed, congrats to our winner, Jessica. The festival will also include food trucks, cultural activities and workshops. And before you think this is just another music fest on another beautiful weekend in Austin, listen to DMK’s version of Enjoy the Silence and try, just try, not to get excited about seeing them live.
