Our Do512 team had the chance to go behind the construction fence for a sneak peek at the new park features, and we were wowed by this newly renovated green space. It’s truly a gift to the Austin community!

Located in the southern end of the 84-acre Pease Park, Kingsbury Commons will debut a $15 million upgrade, led by Pease Park Conservancy and imagined by the local design firm Ten Eyck Landscape Architecture. The project aims to provide an all-ages recreational area at the “welcoming front door to the park” at Kingsbury Street. It includes unique and exciting playscapes, a large water play feature, a new basketball court, baseball diamond, an amphitheater, new restrooms, a hub for park volunteers, and a beautiful renovation of the historic Tudor Cottage that now has an adjacent patio which can be used as an event venue.

Perhaps the most notable addition to the Kingsbury Commons project is the Treehouse — a one-of-a-kind orb that brings visitors under a canopy of trees into an open-air structure with sturdy netting to lay upon and enjoy the natural surroundings of the park. Designed by Mell Lawrence Architects to resemble a seed pod, this Treehouse will be a favorite spot among visitors of all ages. It’s honestly like nothing we’ve seen before!

You’ll notice that there was great care in emphasizing nature-based play in the design of the new structures. It has a completely unique style from any other parks we’ve visited.

The Kingsbury Commons project is just the start of more exciting renovations to come! This is the first phase of a much bigger vision plan from Pease Park Conservancy. You can read much more about the park improvements and find ways to get involved as a donor or volunteer at PeasePark.org.
