Join the 1001 Nights Orchestra, Ravaan Persian Dancers and the Austin International Folk Dancers for a Middle Eastern-themed edition of Planet Music on Friday, May 23 at 7 pm at the Dougherty Arts Center.
Every month, the city of Austin hosts Planet Music, an event that showcases music from around the world. Friday’s performance will feature Middle Eastern music and dancing. Doors open at 6 pm; performances are from 7 – 9 pm.
This show is free and family-friendly, so bring the kids. The first half will be a concert medley of Middle Eastern music including Persian/Iranian, Afghani and Azeri songs, and will be followed by a dance performance by the Ravaan Persian Dancers.
The second half will be an interactive dance lesson and “Beats Class.” The Austin International Folk Dancers will lead the audience in a dance lesson for each beat-cycle/time signature: songs in 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, all the way up to 15/4 if there is time.
