Do512 Family editor, Jamie Jett, somehow managed to get out of bed and get to Day Two of KUTX Live at the Four Seasons, a 4-part, early morning, live music series that started Wednesday, Mar. 12 and will continue through Saturday, Mar. 15. Jett arrived this morning, Thursday, Mar. 13, at 8 am sharp (kind of) to see what these early shows were like. Here are her thoughts…
Kids will learn about fairy folklore then venture into the woods to build homes for their fairy friends, as well as forts for themselves, at Forts and Fairy Houses with Earth Native Wilderness School on Sunday, Mar. 16 from 9:30 am – 3:30 pm.
On Sunday, March 16 at 12 pm at (or shall we say in?) Kenny Dorhams’ Backyard, get wild and crazy at the Mad Tiger Festival, presented by Chicken Ranch, Do512 Family and Peelander-Z. An “unofficial” part of SXSW but officially cool and fun, the Festival will offer fun for the whole family, including art, music and magic. It’s FREE to attend, but please RSVP to ensure a spot.
The Woodland Faerie Trail at Zilker Botanical Gardens features faerie homes and gardens created by gardeners, architects and others. Their creations are now on display through May 26, and Friday, Mar. 14, you can see them at night at the Faeries by Starlight event from 7 – 9 pm.
In the past, SXSW has hosted free, outdoor concerts at Auditorium Shores. Since that location is now under construction, the Outdoor Stage at Butler Park will be the new temporary home. Thursday, Mar. 13 – Saturday, Mar. 15, get to Butler Park and see some major acts, all for free!
Last week, we told you about the Rock Show For Kids going down at the Fader Fort Thursday, Mar. 13 from 10 am – noon with music from Typhoon, Aloe Blacc, The Bots, Les Claypool and more. Guess what? We have 4 VIP tickets to give away to the show!

Plan to check out the Renegade Craft Fair: SXSW Edition Thursday, Mar. 13 through Sunday, Mar. 15 from 12 – 8 pm at the Palmer Events Center. Browse the crafts of more than 200 makers, enjoy music, food, drinks and more! Entry is free, but requires a guest pass available from SXSW or at the event.
This year’s SXSW Eco Light Garden in Republic Square Garden is another great reason to take advantage of no school nights and to get out and enjoy SXSW for free and family-style. The park lights up nightly through March 15. When the sun goes down, Republic Square Park is transformed into a dreamy space that, plays with light and sound and geometry.
