September is Hunger Action Month, a nationwide campaign to raise awareness and take steps to fight hunger in America.  Locally, the Central Texas Food Bank is offering a new program for kids with their Youth Ambassador Program, which provides a flexible roadmap for kids, youth, and families to get involved — and stay involved — together on a mission to end hunger.

The role of a Youth Ambassador at Central Texas Food Bank is to create, advocate, volunteer, and fundraise on behalf of the Food Bank, all while growing in their leadership skills alongside the organization.  Kids five years old through college-age are eligible to apply for these roles (and must reside within the Central Texas Food Bank’s service territory).  Elementary through middle school students will need a committed adult mentor, and you can get more information on that here.

Some of the additional benefits and requirements for becoming a volunteer include:

  • Learning: Get educated about hunger by taking a tour (all ages) or serving at a volunteer shift (ages 8+), and learn  how to represent the Central Texas Food Bank in schools and at community events
  • Leading: Develop and complete a project to raise food and funds, create, educate, or advocate
  • Complete an annual reflection and report (online)

The goal of the Central Texas Food Bank is to nourish hungry people and lead the community in ending hunger.  If your child or family is interested in getting involved in this noble cause, you can apply here today.
