We’re fascinated by them. We’re terrified of them! Sharks are getting all the attention July 25 – 29 during Shark Week at the Science Mill, where everyone’s invited to dive in and learn about these underwater predators. Read on for details about all the specially planned activities during Shark Week (and the rest of the summer).
Shark Week Activities:
- Search for shark teeth in the Fossil Dig.
- Separate fact from fiction with our Shark Week factoids.
- Watch giant megalodon shark teeth print on the 3D printer, and see if you can figure out where the name “megalodon” comes from.
- Catch a special showing of the film Great White Shark 3D! Watch to discover the truth behind this powerful underwater creature and why great white sharks are misunderstood. (The film will play at select times throughout Shark Week, and Meerkats 3D will run in between showings.
Take note that on Friday, July 27 you can attend a special kid-friendly presentation by Dr. Jessica Dutton, Texas State University professor and shark researcher, at at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.!
All of the above (even the films) are included with your regular museum admission: free for ages 0-2; $8.50 for ages 3-18; $10 for adults; $8 for seniors & military.

— The Surprising Story of Sea Stars’ Sticky Feet, August 18, 11 a.m.
Tumble, a podcast for kids, will have their co-hosts Lindsay Patterson and Marshall Escamilla at the Science Mill to present “The Surprising Story of Sea Stars’ Sticky Feet.” With help from a leading sea star scientist, interactive games, and original music, Lindsay and Marshall tell a story of how simple questions and experiments can challenge what we think we know to be true.
