It’s not like you really need any extra reasons to go to a park, especially if you have kids who bounce off the walls when they’re cooped up inside. But until the end of July, the city of Austin’s TEMPO – Art in Public Places program is a great excuse to check out some spots you may not have been to before. Each of these parks features an outdoor sculpture you can check out for free.
Second Saturdays are for families at Laguna Gloria with hands-on art-making activities inspired by the current exhibitions on view. From 11 AM – 3 PM kids ages 2 – 11 can enjoy family-friendly performances, meet artists, and even make their own works of art to take home. This Second Saturday the Tiny Regatta is inspired by artist Orly Genger’s seaworthy materials.

On Saturday. March 8, pause before Southby completely takes over to enjoy some art and culture at The Contemporary Austin at Laguna Gloria: Family Saturday. From 11 am – 3 pm, families are welcome to partake in hands-on art-making workshops inspired by the museum’s current exhibitions.
Looking for a place to bring the kids and pick up some cool comics, art, merch, and even view a shadowcast performance of Dr. Horrible? Then get over to STAPLE! on Saturday and Sunday, March 1 and 2, at the Marchesa Hall & Theatre. Now in it’s 10th year, STAPLE! is offering an impressive guest list, awesome vendors (with lots of local artists to support!), live on-site screen-printing, and on Sunday there will be a Kid’s Comics Corner in the Lobby where kids can create their own comics!
Fun things to do with the family and kids, or not, on Valentines Day weekend in Austin.
