Nature Nights – Fossils!

Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center will be hosting Nature Nights every Thursday from 5 – 8 pm (except July 3) until July 24. Nature Nights are fun and interactive explorations of nature at one of the most lovely and kid-friendly places in the city. Free Beginner Coding Workshop

Have kids who like playing on the computer? Who might like to learn how to create their own programs? On Saturday, May 10 from 1:30 – 3 pm, Hatch After School is offering a free beginner coding workshop.

Tiny Regatta: Second Saturdays at Laguna Gloria

Second Saturdays are for families at Laguna Gloria with hands-on art-making activities inspired by the current exhibitions on view. From 11 AM – 3 PM kids ages 2 – 11 can enjoy family-friendly performances, meet artists, and even make their own works of art to take home. This Second Saturday the Tiny Regatta is inspired by artist Orly Genger’s seaworthy materials.

Eeyore’s 51st Birthday Celebration

If the slogan “Keep Austin Weird” had its own festival, Eeyore’s Birthday would be it. Get weird at Pease Park on Saturday, Apr. 26 from 11 am until dark, the children’s area will be open from 11 am – 4 pm and live music from noon – 6 pm. Admission is FREE! Dress code will be Austin-formal: tutus, bikinis, fairy wings and flip flops. Costumes are encouraged and there will be a contest. Props: hula hoops, bubbles and flower garlands.

Austin Parks: Red Bud Isle

Red Bud Isle may be more familiar to dog lovers than parents, but the small peninsula offers beautiful views and freedom for all. It is an ideal setting for children to walk their own dog without too much oversight. Red Bud Isle is a wonderful place to see wildlife, from Great Blue Herons and American Coots to squirrels and turtles outwitting the canine crowd.

 

Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt & Movie in the Park

On Thursday, Apr. 17 starting at 7:15 pm, join the Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department in Old Settlers Park for its annual Flashlight Egg Hunt. Let your flashlight be your guide to candy, eggs and prizes and then stay for a movie in the park featuring the family movie The Rise of the Guardians. Be sure to look for the golden eggs- they can be redeemed for a special prize basket!
