Tiny Regatta: Second Saturdays at Laguna Gloria

Second Saturdays are for Families at Laguna Gloria with hands-on art-making activities inspired by the current exhibitions on view. Saturday, May 10 from 11 am – 3 pm, kids ages 2 – 11 can enjoy family-friendly performances, meet artists, and even make their own works of art to take home.

This Second Saturday the Tiny Regatta project is inspired by artist Orly Genger’s seaworthy materials. Children will make miniature boats and even have a chance to see if their works of art can sail. There will be hourly boat races with awards for the winners.

The event is a mere $5 if you are already a member and $10 for non members. Your contributions & participation in events helps to support their wonderfully ambitious exhibition schedule, as well as fund education programs for children, teens and adults.

Laguna Gloria, aside from being one of the most lovely places in Austin is home to some of the best contemporary art to awaken the artist in the young and the slightly more seasoned alike. Family events at Laguna Gloria serve as a space for children, parents, and local artists to come together for an afternoon of inspiration and creation.

The Contemporary exhibitions are just the kind to get kids thinking outside the box. Whether their ship sails or spins in circles they will surely take away a sense of accomplishment and renewed interest in their own imagination. Take a break from the x-box and go make something completely your own with local artists and other art-loving Austinites.
