Tree Talk Winter Walk at the Wildflower Center

On Saturday, Jan. 23, plan for a day of fresh air and family fun at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center for the annual Tree Talk Winter Walk from 9 a.m. – 5 pm. Celebrate Texas trees while learning about tree care, and browse a wide selection of native trees & shrubs for sale. Plus, there will be guided walks and talks by experts as well as a lot of family-friendly activities including shelter building with tree branches, a marshmallow roast & bonfire, storytime, swinging in the Cathedral of Oaks and a tree scavenger hunt.

  • 2 p.m., The Importance of Native Trees – Don Gardener, Consulting Arborist
  • 3 p.m., Oak Wilt-Chris Dolan, City of Austin

— Tree & Shrub Sale:
Winter is a great time to plant trees. Please bring a wagon to load up your plants. (Cash or checks preferred.) Click here to learn more about what will be available for sale.

— In the Store:

  • 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. – A Field Guide to Common Texas Grasses.  Signing with authors Stephan L. Hatch, Kelly Umphres and Jenet Ardoin
  • “Common Tree & Shrub Leaves of Central Texas Guide” by Thomas Koschmieder will be available.
  • All tree books and walking sticks will be on special for the day.
  • 1 p.m. – Meet the Sculptor tour and talk with Sun McColgin
  • 1 – 4 p.m. – Artist Crystal Orlando in the McDermott Learning Center

–> Admission: This year, regular admission will be charged for entrance to Tree Talk Winter Walks. $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and college students, $4 for ages 5-17, free for members and children ages 4 & under.
