It’s hard to believe we’re already talking about back-to-school prep!  Ready or not, the 2024/2025 school year is coming and the events to celebrate (and prepare) are rolling in.  Many of these events offer resources for families, like free backpacks, supplies, and haircuts, and some are just good old-fashioned fun.  Read on for more.

Books by Amber Presents: Back to School Free Community Day: Free Backpack Giveaway

Saturday, August 3 | Noon – 3 pm | FREE with registration *UPDATE: This event is SOLD OUT*

Update as of July 2024: This event is SOLD OUT. Bring your students and receive a FREE backpack with FREE school supplies per student. There will also be FREE haircuts for boys 5 – 10 years old, and FREE braided styles for girls up to age 10. There will also be FREE BBQ for children 17 and under (and plates are $5 for 18 and up). There will also be a bounce house, and all supplies, etc. will be first come, first served. Please register for your children here.


H-E-B Free First Sunday: Back to School @ The Bullock

Sunday, August 4 | 10 am – 5 pm (Activities from 10 am – 2 pm) | FREE

Get ready to go back to school with awesome kids’ activities and FREE admission to The Bulluck Museum on Sunday, August 4. Activities include: hopping onboard AISD’s new electric bus; storytime and a craft with Austin Public Library; STEM demos and activities with GirlStart, and more. Activities end at 2 pm, but all three floors of The Bullock’s exhibits will be open until 5 pm. Get all the info here.


Jordan’s Safe Place: Back 2 School Bash: Mental Health Event

Saturday, August 10 | 10 am – 2 pm | FREE

This event will be filled with fun activities, free school supplies, free haircuts and hair braiding, food, games, and prizes.  Travis County Office of Emergency Management will be providing resources on preparedness and emergency swag for children and adults. This event is for everyone and aims to raise awareness about mental health in preparation for a great school year!  More info here.


Fresh Start Back to School | Drive-thru event at Tavis County Sherrif’s Office

Saturday, August 17 | 2 pm – 3 pm | FREE

This drive-thru event is brought to you by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. From 2 pm to 3 pm on Saturday, August 17, the first 100 school-aged kids (first come first served) will be given free school supplies and a hygiene kit. Get all the details here.
