Remember the thrill of your first concert? Whether it was a legendary act or a slightly cringey throwback, there’s nothing like that first rush of live music. Today’s teens get to experience it all in Austin, from big outdoor stages to cozy neighborhood spots, and we’ve teamed up with local high schooler and music fan Cameron Howe to spotlight her favorite venues where teens can safely enjoy the city’s vibrant music scene.
Note: While all of these venues are teen-accessible, not every show is! Always double-check the show details before you go.

—The Moody Amphitheater
1401 Trinity St.
One of the newest venues in Austin, Moody Amphitheater at Waterloo Park, has quickly become a local favorite. With an open lawn and views of downtown, it’s a great place to catch a show outdoors. There are ticketed seats near the stage, but lawn seating is often more affordable and super chill — just bring a picnic blanket. The best part? Most shows are all ages, so it’s a great pick for families and friend groups.

— Mohawk Austin
912 Red River St.
Mohawk is a super welcoming venue with two stages (indoor and outdoor), and it features everything from indie rock to hip-hop to electronic. Located on Red River, it has an easygoing vibe and a layout that makes it easy to move around and catch different acts. While some shows are 18+, they do host all-ages concerts regularly — make sure to check ahead.

— Radio Coffee
4204 Menchaca Rd.
Radio Coffee is more than just a place to get your caffeine fix. It also serves up the perfect mix of food trucks, an open-air patio, and – you guessed it – live music. From Bluegrass Nights every Monday to a variety of acoustic acts, Radio offers something new with each visit. And the best part? Dogs are welcome, which means you can soak up your favorite music with your favorite furry friend.

— ACL Live at Moody Theater
310 W Willie Nelson Blvd.
Not only is Moody Theater one of the most famous venues in Austin, but it’s also a favorite among teens. It serves as the home for the taping of Austin City Limits, the longest-running music series in American television history. Whether you’re dancing to your heart’s content on the floor or seated in the upper balcony, the space will never fail to match your energy.

— Stubb’s BBQ
801 Red River St.
My first Stubb’s experience was seeing pop artists Claire Rosinkranz and Alec Benjamin. The stage has a large cover that reflects the light, making the production feel very intimate. What’s more, the venue is outside, so you can enjoy your favorite music while taking in the beautiful downtown Austin scenery.
