This weekend, if you’re not hitting up one of the many Free Austin Pools, there is still plenty to do! Here are our top 10 Austin family events, have fun out there!
You and your older children may find Zilker Botanical Garden’s Monarch, Milkweed and You event on Saturday, August 10 from 1 – 3 pm to be educational and empowering as you learn how you can help. Please join us for this educational talk to learn what actions you can take to help this magnificent long distance flyer of the insect world.
It’s a free, indie kid-rock band festival bubbles! It doesn’t get more Austin than that. Free fun for the whole family at Bubblepalooza 2013, Saturday, August 10 on the Long Center City Terrace.
Dining with the littles can be tough. They don’t want to sit still and they don’t want to have adult conversations, and who can blame them, really? Let the kids be kids at our Featured Family Restaurant of the Week – Austin’s Pizza in Westlake. where they can play outside and eat some high quality pizza.
Just on the edge of Tarrytown, adjacent to Mopac, West Enfield Park is surprisingly peaceful. When you’re in it, it’s fairly easy to block out the road noise. It may not be the prettiest of the neighborhood parks, but it’s got a lot to offer with its wide open spaces, large pool, tennis and sport court, ball field and playscape/swings.
Tucked away in the hills off HWY 360 & 2222 on City Park Road, Ski Shores Cafe is a laid back cafe on Lake Austin, ideal for enjoying with other families or groups of friends. This is not a quick-stop joint–you’ll want to stay a while.
Shipe Park has a lot to offer a family, especially if you have multiple children. There’s a wading pool, a regular pool, tennis courts, a basketball court, a playscape, a covered spot with a Foosball table and an open area to run around in. There are several places to grab lunch before or after in the neighborhood. Plus, it has an amazing mural.
This is a sweet spot, tucked in the rolling hills of Tarrytown. It’s a quiet neighborhood with lots of families, your little ones are bound to make a friend or two. Besides the park and the pool, there is also a hiking trail and an open area where you can play Frisbee, throw a ball around or just let the kids run free!
If you are looking for that perfect natural spot to get your your toes wet and are over your neighborhood pool, strap your seat belts on and head to Blue Hole. Blue Hole is a natural swimming hole just 40 minutes south of Austin outside of Wimberley, Texas.
