The Colorado River Alliance is a nonprofit group that is dedicated solely to the conservation and protection of the Texas Colorado River. They offer educational programs during the school year, and in the summer, they take families on guided tours of the LCRA Redbud Center. These tours are interactive, incredibly informative (Did you know all the lakes in Austin are man made?!), and FREE!
When you have a tiny train enthusiast in the back seat of the car, getting stopped at a railroad crossing when a train passes can feel like winning the lottery. One of our favorite things to do on the weekend when the weather is nice is to drive out to the Jester King Brewery, located roughly 20 miles southwest of downtown Austin. Cue choirs of angels: there’s a new playground at the Triangle. This mixed-use development in Central Austin has long been a favorite destination for families and this is the icing on the cake. The playground is located near the big grassy field, across the street from Snap Kitchen and next to Maudie’s. It’s on the smaller side, geared toward younger children.
Red Bud Isle may be more familiar to dog lovers than parents, but the small peninsula offers beautiful views and freedom for all. It is an ideal setting for children to walk their own dog without too much oversight. Red Bud Isle is a wonderful place to see wildlife, from Great Blue Herons and American Coots to squirrels and turtles outwitting the canine crowd.
