Going out to eat with the family usually means letting the little ones pick from a fairly dull kids menu of standards like chicken nuggets, burgers, fries, etc. But Flower Child, a new restaurant in the Domain Northside, is here to change the game. This fast-casual restaurant features farm-fresh, organic veggies and natural proteins without additives. Their promise is to serve “happy food for a healthy world”.

As a vegan mom myself, I was eager to check out Flower Child with my family. I will note that my non-vegan boys are usually pretty satisfied with a meal of fried foods, but they were totally on-board with the idea of trying something new and fresh, as long as I wasn’t going to force them to eat kale.

Flower Child’s bright and cheerful design welcomes you in, whether you opt to sit outside on the patio or inside the airy dining room. You can browse through a pretty large menu and order and pay at the counter. Servers will bring your food out to you after you’re settled into your seats.

Let’s talk about the menu… First, the Healthy Kids menu is for ages 12 and under and is priced at $6.50. Kids can pick a protein: all-natural chicken, grass-fed steak or organic tofu. Then they get to choose two sides such as gluten-free mac & cheese, smashed potatoes, broccoli with parmesan, and more. The boys loved the food! Our eldest is a bit of a mac & cheese aficionado, so if he gives it two thumbs up, I know it’s gotta be good. Additionally, Flower Child is pretty well-known for their seasonal lemonade selections, and the kids loved trying unique flavors that were very new to them.

As for the grown-up menu selections, I was very impressed. It was hard to choose from so many deliciously healthy options. Avocado toast, amazing soups and salads, bowls of grains and greens, wraps, etc., all packed with a variety of veggies and the option to choose your proteins, too. Flower Child is definitely on my new list of favorites for family dining. Learn more about this restaurant on the Flower Child website and Facebook page.

Note: We have heard that the lines can get long around lunch time, but the Northside Lawn (a nice green space) is located nearby. So if needed, kids can burn off some energy close by before you go.
